Detroit Lions History
Nov. 22, 1990 - Before a national TV audience on NBC, Detroit raced out to a 24-7 lead and held off a second half rally from John Elway and the Denver Broncos, eventually prevailing on a 40-27 Thanksgiving shoot-out at the Pontiac Silverdome. Detroit piled up 421 total yards, as RB Barry Sanders ran for 147 yards and scored two touchdowns. QB Bob Gagliano threw for 248 yards and three touchdowns to pace the Lions' passing attack. Elway (24-of-37, 243 yards, 1 INT) brought the Broncos within seven points, before Detroit PK Eddie Murray booted his third and fourth field goals to seal the victory for the Lions. Before the 1990 season would end, the Lions would also defeat NFC Central rivals Chicago and Green Bay. You can purchase NFL Tickets to all NFL Games.
